Workshop in Ivano-Frankivsk

The Day After Foundation workshop “The role of the women's movement in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine” was held in Ivano-Frankivsk

The workshop was an opportunity to discuss the issues of training and integrating women into peacebuilding processes following Ukraine's victory in the war that Russia launched against Ukraine in 2014 and escalated into a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.

During the workshop, 25 Ukrainian women leaders came together to share their experiences during a full-scale war and discuss the prospects for the participation of the women's movement in the reconstruction processes of Ukraine. The workshop participants represented various professional communities, including human rights, education, business, state and local government, as well as vulnerable social groups, including people with disabilities, representatives of LGBTQ+, Roma and Crimean Tatar communities, veterans, rural and elderly women.

The workshop also provided a platform for sharing best practices in post-conflict recovery and national reconciliation processes from around the world, including Colombia, Rwanda, South Africa, and Northern Ireland. Partners from the US Institute of Peace, the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Center, and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy shared strategies for building sustainable peace and reconciliation, and the potential for women to participate effectively in these processes.

As part of the workshop, a separate conversation was held with participants about the needs of women during the full-scale war in Ukraine. This research helped to quickly reach women from different regions of Ukraine aged 25-50 and understand the circumstances they are in, as well as their urgent needs and requests.
